Oracle Linux 7 Update 9 Released with Kernel 5.4 and More

Oracle announced the immediate availability of Oracle Linux 7 Update 9 which is an enterprise-grade Linux distribution mainly for servers built from Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL).

Oracle Linux primarily targetted to the Enterprise Customers who want a tock solid server distribution with a paid premium support. Not only that it comes with the GNOME Desktop environment and integrates well with Oracle products.

The Oracle Linux Update 9 is based upon Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) 7.9 and the popular Unbreakable Enterprise Kernel (UEK) Release 6 as the default kernel. This release brings the latest “open source innovations and business-critical performance and security optimizations for cloud and on-premises deployment”.

On the deployment side, your application does not require any re-certification with Oracle Linux 7 Update 9 with UEK 6 as they are already certified with Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7.

What’s new in Oracle Linux 7 Update 9

UEK Release 6 is based on mainline Linux Kernel 5.4 which provides more innovation than other commercial Linux kernel available today.

With the Linux Kernel 5.4, you get enhanced support for Arm platform on the security and virtualization aspects.

The Remote Desktop Protocol (RDP) version bumped up in this release from 2.0.0 to 2.1.1. Along with more security, this RDP version is more compatible with the Microsoft Windows terminal server version.

SCSI T10 DIF/DIX is fully supported on hardware that has been qualified by the vendor, provided that the vendor also fully supports the particular host bus adapter (HBA) and storage array configuration.

The pacemaker cluster resource manager is updated to 1.1.23 with more bug fixes and improvements.
