Fedora 32 New Features, Release Dates [Updated]

The Fedora Project announced the immediate release of Fedora 32 BETA. The highly anticipated Fedora 32 is expected to be released by the end of April 2020.

With this BETA announcement across Fedora flavors, Fedora moving closer to another rock-solid release this year.

Fedora 32 BETA New Features, Release Dates

Fedora 32 workstation, server, spins, labs, and ARM is expected to be released in April 2020.

Workstation

EarlyOOM enabled by default

In the new Fedora 32 Workstation Beta, EarlyOOM is enabled by default. EarlyOOM helps to recover from out of memory situations sooner, rather than the typical complete system hang in which the user has no other choice but to force power off.

When your system’s RAM and swap use go below 10% and 5%, EarlyOOM starts initiating termination and kill signals to processes. 

More Improvements

Fedora 32 Workstation Beta also enables the fs.trim timer by default, which improves performance and wear leveling for solid-state drives.

GNOME 3.36

This release brings the latest GNOME 3.36, the newest release of GNOME desktop. GNOME 3.36 brings major performance improvements eliminating lags in desktop, Do Not Disturb button in the notification, settings improvements and many more. 

Underlying Updates

Fedora 32 Beta includes updated versions of many popular packages like Ruby, Python, and Perl. It also includes GNU Compiler Collection (GCC) version 10, updated underlying infrastructure software. For a full list, see the Change set on the Fedora Wiki.

Download Fedora 32

Fedora 32 Beta is available for download. Before you go ahead, remember that it is Beta release and can be unstable as more enhancements and testing is in progress. If you want to try, get your ISO copy from the below links.

Upgrade

If you want to upgrade from prior releases, run below commands from the terminal. If you are running a production system, it is NOT recommended to upgrade.

sudo dnf upgrade –refresh -y
sudo dnf system-upgrade download –releasever=32
sudo dnf system-upgrade reboot
