Release highlights of Kid3 3.7.0 tag editor.

Kid3 is a free and open source audio tagger runs on Linux (KDE/Qt), MacOS, Windows and Android. With Kid3 you can easily tag multiple formats of audio files without typing the same information again and again. This is very handy tool when you need to tag huge volumes of audio files for various purposes. Kid3 supports almost all popular audio file formats – MP3, Ogg/Vorbis, FLAC, MPC, MP4/AAC, MP2, Opus, Speex, TrueAudio, WavPack, WMA, WAV and AIFF files (e.g. full albums).

Kid3 is also loaded with different features (see below feature list) where you can convert between various ID3 versions. Here are some of the Kid3 features:

  • Edit ID3v1.1 tags
  • Edit all ID3v2.3 and ID3v2.4 frames
  • Convert between ID3v1.1, ID3v2.3 and ID3v2.4 tags

With this new playlist editor feature you can add, remove and reorder playlist items and convert between tags using multiple selections. This makes the audio tagging faster than ever. Here are the changes introduced in 3.7.0 release:

New Features in 3.7.0

  • Add and reorder playlist items using drag’n’drop.
  • Edit tags from files referenced in playlist.
  • Play songs from playlist.
  • Drag image files from file list to embed them in audio files.
  • Drag files from file list into other applications.
  • Reload action to refresh file list.
  • Completions with different values when selecting multiple files.
  • Option “–dbus” to have a D-Bus interface with kid3-cli.
  • Code “%{dirname}” to use current directory name when renaming.
  • Code “%{disk}” as alias for “%{disc number}”.
  • Edit list of availble formats to set file and directory names from the tags and vice versa.

How to Install

For Ubuntu, Linux Mint and derivatives – Kid3 is available in PPA which you can install by running below commands from terminal.

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:ufleisch/kid3
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install kid3 # KDE users
sudo apt-get install kid3-qt # without KDE dependencies
sudo apt-get install kid3-cli # for the command-line interface

Once installed, you can find Kid3 in application menu.
