Handbrake 1.4 released with many new features and updates. We wrap up the release in this post.

The free and open-source audio and video converter Handbrake is used to convert video and audio files to different format. It is loaded with features and have ability to rip DVD or Blu-ray (without copy protection) to desired file format.
This utility is one of the quality open-source application which can be used for massive transcoding projects involving hundreds if not thousands of ripping or transcoding work. You get your work done using its built-in profiles, queue feature and batch conversion support.

Handbrake 1.4 – Features
This release comes with one year worth of work from the team and brings the following updates.
- HandBrake engine now supports native 10 and 12-bit encodes, including HDR10 metadata passthru.
- Improvements to hardware encoding functionality for Intel QuickSync, AMD VCN and Qualcomm ARM devices.
- Adds support for Apple Silicon based macs.
- Adds support for Qualcomm ARM64 devices running Windows
- Improvements to subtitle handling.
- UI/UX improvements for all 3 platforms.
- As usual, hundreds of other changes and tweaks to the app.

Download and Install Handbrake 1.4
Upgrade
If you are using the older version of Handbrake (1.3.x) then make sure you finish all of your encoding tasks in the queue and remember to create the presets once again in your new version. Then safely you can upgrade.
New Download and Installation
For Ubuntu, Linux Mint and other similar derivatives, Handbrake is available in PPA. You can open up a terminal and run the following command for updates
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:stebbins/handbrake-releases
sudo apt update
sudo apt install handbrake-gtk
For other Linux distributions such as Fedora, it comes with the Flatpak package, which you can install and run after setting up your system for Flatpak.
For Arch Linux users, it is available in AUR and you can install the handbrake-full package after setting up YAY.
