These days, personal data managers are essentials due to hundreds of credentials, one needs to remember. KeePassX is a password manager which is available in Ubuntu for basic and more advanced users.

After some extensive development, KeePaasX sees 2.0 beta version.

  • Extensive management- title for each entry for its better identification
  • Search function – search either in specific groups or in complete database
  • Autofill
  • Database security
  • Automatic generation of secure passwords
  • Precaution features- quality indicator for chosen passwords- hiding all passwords behind asterisks
  • Encryption- either the Advanced Encryption Standard (AES) or the Twofish algorithm are used
  • Import and export of entries – import from PwManager (*.pwm) and KWallet (*.xml) files- export as textfile (*.txt)
  • Operating system independent – KeePassX is cross platform, so are the databases, as well

How to install – using Terminal

To install KeePassX 2.0 beta in Ubuntu using terminal run below commands in sequence. Enter password when prompted. Beta versions are may not be stable, use it at your own risk.

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:keepassx/daily
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install keepassx

Run

  • Type KeePassX in dash. Click the launcher icon.
  • From menu, fin it under Applications.

How to uninstall

To uninstall KeePassX run below commands in terminal.
